iO NHS INTERNSHIP 2023

Taking part in an internship will enhance your current knowledge and understanding of working in an MSK team whilst challenging and critically evaluating your professional practice, which will help you develop skills that will be equally useful in private practice and within the NHS.

You will also gain free access to several excellent eLearning programmes to supplement your learning.

There are two placement opportunities currently available, with the internships taking place at Epsom & St Helier Hospital or the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust.

Please click the icons below to review and download the full internship prospectuses.

Below you will also find an in-depth report which looks at the internship programme ran in 2022, which provides a background summary, the method and results as well as an intern’s feedback from the programme.

Requirements to apply

The candidate will have the following:

  • A recognised degree in osteopathy
  • Be a member of the iO
  • Professional Liability Insurance in place

For either role, you will be expected to attend the clinic one day per week for four months. It is proposed that this be composed of a half-day of managing your own patient list in a busy NHS team and a half-day shadowing other AHPs in the clinics.

Please note: This role is not a paid or remunerated role and there is no fee for participating. You should be prepared to proactively seek NHS employment opportunities after completing the programme.

Application process

Please send an up-to-date CV relevant to the internship you wish to apply for. Also please include a cover letter that identifies your motivations and how your training, experience and personal attributes will make you an ideal candidate for the internship you apply for.
