Autumn Roadshows revitalised with new CPD opportunity and interactive programme

Updated 21 August 2026

The iO has refreshed its Autumn Roadshow series, introducing a more interactive format that responds to member feedback and places greater emphasis on practical learning, discussion and professional reflection.

A key feature of this year’s programme is a new Professional Boundaries in Everyday Practice workshop, designed to support osteopaths in meeting the General Osteopathic Council’s objective activity requirement for CPD.

Using realistic scenarios, peer discussion and structured reflection, participants will explore how boundary issues can emerge in everyday practice, consider how they might respond in different situations, receive feedback from colleagues and reflect on the implications for their own professional practice. A worksheet will be provided to support participants in evidencing their learning and reflection as part of their CPD activity

The refreshed programme also includes Our Professional Community: Belonging and Being Valued in a Diverse Profession, an interactive workshop exploring how shared values are enacted in practice, what creates a sense of belonging within the osteopathic profession, and how professional contribution and development should be recognised and celebrated. Through discussion and shared reflection, participants will consider the role of professional communities in supporting practice, learning and engagement across the profession.

Alongside these core workshops, delegates will have the opportunity to engage with a range of specialist topics, with some content varying by location.

Workshops for Edinburgh and London now include Reconceptualising Osteopathic Palpation, led by Dr Mandy Banton, which will explore the proposition that osteopathic palpation can be understood as a form of embodied sense-making, and consider what this perspective might mean for communication and consent if palpation is understood as contributing to how patients interpret their experiences and their bodies.

In London, delegates will also have the opportunity to attend AI in Osteopathic Practice, a specialist workshop led by Patrick Gauthier. The workshop will explore the potential applications of artificial intelligence in clinical practice, alongside the limitations, risks and professional considerations associated with its use, helping osteopaths evaluate where AI may support practice and what safeguards need to be in place before adopting AI-enabled tools.

The programme will also explore practical approaches to supporting new graduates and creating positive, sustainable early-career practice arrangements, helping clinic owners and experienced practitioners consider how they can support the next generation entering the profession while continuing to grow their practice.

Throughout the day, members will hear updates from the iO leadership team on current priorities and developments, while also having opportunities to share their views, contribute to discussions and help inform future Institute activity.

Dr Alison Robinson Canham, iO CEO, said: “Our refreshed Autumn Roadshow series places a strong emphasis on practical learning, discussion and participation. We know members value opportunities to learn with and from colleagues, reflect on issues relevant to everyday practice and engage in conversations about the future of the profession. The introduction of a dedicated professional boundaries workshop that supports the GOsC objective activity requirement is a particularly valuable addition, alongside a wider programme designed to spark discussion, encourage reflection and strengthen professional connections.”
