Dr Carol Fawkes awarded national recognition for osteopathic leadership

Published 18 December 2025

Dr Carol Fawkes, Health Services Researcher and General Adviser, Research Support Service (Imperial College London and Partners), won the Outstanding Leader Award at the Institute of Osteopathy’s  (iO) prestigious annual awards ceremony in London on 22 November.

The IO was proud to introduce this new award for 2025, which celebrates individuals who lead by example and demonstrate exceptional day-to-day leadership in education, regional engagement, or professional development, particularly those making a meaningful, behind-the-scenes impact without seeking the spotlight.

Carol Fawkes

Dr Carol Fawkes receives the award from Daniel Collis, iO President.

Carol’s background is in musculoskeletal care, particularly back pain. Her PhD focussed on the use of patient reported outcome measurement (PROMs), and the use of technology to facilitate PROM data collection. The PROMs data collection app she developed for her PhD has been translated into several different European languages (French, German, Dutch, Swedish, Danish, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese and Norwegian).  Carol has also been involved in the cross-cultural translation of the app content and will be working on further translations in the future.

“Carol’s contribution to osteopathy has been exceptional. We’re especially proud to acknowledge Carol as a graduate of the British School of Osteopathy (BSO) ...”
