Help us demonstrate osteopathy’s contribution to neighbourhood health
Published 23 July 2026
The iO is preparing a submission to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Allied Health Professions’ inquiry into neighbourhood health. iO Members are invited to share examples of how osteopathy is helping meet local health needs and improve access to care.
The inquiry is examining how Allied Health Professionals contribute to prevention, early intervention, treatment and rehabilitation to help people remain well and independent in their communities through locally delivered care.

Osteopathy has an important contribution to make to this discussion. Although much osteopathic care is delivered outside formal NHS structures, it is rooted in local communities and may already be responding to local health needs and improving access to care.
We want to ensure that this work is visible within the inquiry. We would therefore like to hear from iO Members who can share examples of osteopathic services, projects or partnerships contributing to neighbourhood health.
We are particularly interested in work that:
- Responds to an identified local health need or helps address health inequalities.
- Improves access for underserved groups or communities.
- Supports prevention, early intervention, rehabilitation or long-term independence.
- Involves NHS services, GPs, charities, voluntary or community organisations, local authorities, social care or other local partners.
- Demonstrates outcomes for patients, communities or services.
- Highlights barriers preventing osteopathy from contributing more fully.
Your example does not need to be NHS-funded or formally evaluated and we welcome examples from independent practice.
Sonia Kumar MP, Chair of the APPG, said: “This inquiry is an opportunity to showcase the expertise, value and opportunities that Allied Health Professionals can provide, to ensure that NHS neighbourhood health is effective.”
