Apply for the iO NHS Internship
Are you an enthusiastic and self-motivated registered osteopath looking to enhance your understanding of working in the NHS? The iO NHS Internship is an exciting, new opportunity to gain shadowing and hands-on experience of working in a busy multi-disciplinary MSK team, providing valuable experience that would support future applications for NHS roles.
This internship will enhance your current knowledge and understanding of working in an MSK team while challenging and critically evaluating your own professional practice, which will develop skills that will be equally useful in private practice, as well as within the NHS.
You will also gain free access to several excellent eLearning programmes to supplement your learning.
Should you be successful, the internship and completion of any eLearning programmes will legitimately count towards your CPD.
Requirements
You will have completed and hold a recognised degree in osteopathy, be an iO Member and will have your own professional indemnity insurance.
You will be expected to attend the clinic one day per week for six months. It is proposed that this be composed of a half-day of managing your own patient list in a busy NHS team and a half-day shadowing other AHPs in the clinics.
This role is not a paid or remunerated role and there is no fee for participating. You should be prepared to proactively seek NHS employment opportunities after completing the programme.
The full internship prospectus is available for download here.

‘The osteopaths who took part in the internship settled into the department quickly, integrating extremely well into our NHS MSK team. They were knowledgeable, professional, and added value to the team. We are now considering continuing the internship as part of our ongoing recruitment strategy.’
