PROJECTS

& CASE STUDIES

We have funded successful projects in areas including improving the management and outcomes of headaches, the impact of osteopaths on NHS triage services through the First Contact Practitioner pilot, the development of a framework for the assessment and treatment of concussion in sport, and the osteopathic mentoring scheme.

Here is more information on our success stories, there are more projects coming later this year so watch this space.

First Contact Practitioner Pilot

This was the first funded project for the oF. The First Contact Practitioner pilot has demonstrated to the NHS and Health Education England that osteopaths are able to provide FCP services in primary care in the same way that physiotherapists can.

Introducing Osteopaths to Primary Care: The Role of the First Contact Practitioner

Improving management of headaches

This multi-phased project focuses on the development of academically robust knowledge of headache disorders, together with e-learning on the safety, diagnosis and management of such disorders.

OSTEOPATHIC MENTORING PROGRAMME

Originally designed to support new graduates with the often challenging transition between the undergraduate training environment and professional practice this project has grown from strength to strength. It has developed bespoke online training, a ‘toolkit’ of supportive resources, and a mentor-matching online platform to help osteopaths find this type of professional support.

Crying Unsettled and disTressed Infants

The CUTIES Trial looks to investigate the effectiveness of osteopathic care for crying, unsettled and distressed babies.

Osteopathy for Diabetic Neuropathy

The NeuOst project explores using manual techniques for people with diabetic peripheral neuropathy, develops an intervention that integrates psychologically informed and exercise approaches with osteopathy, and tests the feasibility of NeuOst in a small clinical trial.

Under-represented groups in Osteopathic Training

UrGEnT (Underrepresented Groups’ Experiences in osteopathic Training)
Investigating Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in undergraduate Osteopathic Educational Institutions in the UK.

Concussion injuries in sport

This research study investigates the management of vestibular-oculomotor function following sports-related concussions, specifically in rugby.
